For Coating Concrete Block and Masonry
Using: Acrylic Wall Coat 2000

DESCRIPTION

Each job must be approved by American WeatherStar before the project begins to be eligible for a warranty.

PART 1 — GENERAL

1.01  SCOPE

The intention of this specification is to outline the procedures for the application of American WeatherStar wall coatings on concrete block and masonry wall surfaces. These suggested specifications describe materials, methods and conditions necessary for the proper application of WeatherStar Coatings. Actual application requirements may vary and are the responsibility of the installer.

Part 2 — PRODUCTS

2.01  Coatings and Related Materials

All Materials used shall be manufactured by and or approved by WeatherStar Coatings and shall meet the following specifications:

2.02  Elastomeric Coating System

Type: Solar reflective coating
Elongation: 325%
Tensile Strength: 340
Density, lbs./ gal.: 11.57 ± .1
Solids by weight: 58%
Solids by volume: 42%
Color: Custom tinted

ACRYLIC CLEAR PRIMER 9000
Type: Pre-treatment bonding primer
Viscosity: 55-60 KU
Solids by Volume: 31%
Density: 8.7± .1

2.03  Delivery and Storage

A.   Materials shall be delivered in their original, tightly sealed containers or unopened packages, all clearly labeled with the manufacturer's name, file number, and batch numbers.

B.   Materials shall be stored out of the weather in their original tightly sealed containers or unopened containers as recommended by the manufacturer.

2.04  WARRANTY

A.   American WeatherStar warrants that the material supplied will meet or exceed physical properties as published. The contractor guarantees that workmanship will be free of defects in coating application. Since performance of previously applied coatings or installed substrate are beyond the control of American WeatherStar or the contractor, requests for additional warranty coverage shall be subject to prior approval by American WeatherStar.

B.   Protection of building and occupants:

1.   All surfaces not to receive system specified shall be protected from overspray hazard i.e. windows, doors, exterior and vehicles. Protective coverings shall be secured against wind and shall be vented if used in conjunction with applications preventing collection and moisture.

2.   All air intake ventilation equipment shall be turned off to prevent fumes from entering building.

3.   No smoking signs to be posted as mandated by local fire officials.

C.   Substrate: Proceed with work as specified only after substrate construction, preparation, and detail work has been completed.

part 3 — installation

3.01  CERTIFIED APPLICATOR

A.   All WeatherStar Coatings products shall be applied by a single, experienced and competent Certified Applicator or applicator approved by WeatherStar Coatings.

B.   Contractor shall be a Certified Applicator of WeatherStar Coatings and doing business under the same company name. Financial stability shall include no filing of bankruptcy during the past seven years.

3.02  SURFACE PREPARATION

A.   Preparation shall include all requirements specified by WeatherStar Coatings to ensure proper adhesion of the WeatherStar Coatings products to the existing substrate.

B.   Preparation shall include but not limited to the following:

1.   Substrate must be pressure-washed. A minimum working pressure of 2,000 psi shall be used to remove all dirt, dust, previous paints & coatings which are delaminating. Washing with an appropriate cleaner is recommended.

2.   Scrape and sand peeled paint to a sound surface.

3.   Sand glossy surfaces to a dull finish.

3.03  PRIMER APPLICATION

A.   Examine substrate to receive wall coating. Do not proceed with installation of the WeatherStar coating until all problem areas have been corrected in a manner acceptable to the manufacturer.

B.   All previously coated areas must be prime coated with Acrylic Clear Primer 9000 at an approximate rate of 1 gallon per 200 square feet. For new construction please call American WeatherStar for details.

C.   Coating Application (12 mil system)

1.   BASE COAT: Apply base coat of Acrylic Wall Coat 2000 at a rate of 100 square feet per gallon for 6 dry mil thickness.

2.   TOP COAT: Apply final coat of Acrylic Wall Coat 2000 at a rate of 100 square feet per gallon for 6 dry mil thickness. Total thickness of Acrylic Wall Coat 2000 is to be approximately 12 dry mils.

D.   Each coat must be allowed to dry for 24 - 48 hours depending on humidity and temperature.

E.   The surface is to be inspected for defects, flaws or holidays and repaired if necessary.

3.04  RESTRICTIONS / LIMITATIONS

A.   This system is to be used only in conjunction with commonly accepted roofing standards but not limited to the following:

1.   No application of materials shall commence during inclement weather or when precipitation is imminent. No thinning of materials is permitted.

2.   No materials are to be applied to wet, dirty, or frozen surfaces.

3.   In conjunction with the final inspection, all debris, containers, materials and equipment are to be properly removed from the job-site. Grounds are to be cleaned, undamaged, and acceptable to the owner.

CAUTION:  Do not apply within two hours of sunset, rain, fog or freezing temperatures. WeatherStar Coatings must be completely dry before exposing to rain. Keep WeatherStar Coatings containers covered when not in use. Dispose of all containers in accordance with state and local environmental regulations. Keep away from children. If ingested, DO NOT induce vomiting. Call Physician immediately.
